The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has rejected reports circulating on social media claiming that petrol and diesel prices in Pakistan are set to rise sharply by Rs73.
In a statement, an OGRA spokesperson described the reports as baseless and fabricated, urging the public not to rely on unverified information.
The authority said the claims spreading online were incorrect and did not reflect any official decision regarding fuel prices.
No summary sent to PM’s office
According to the spokesperson, some social media posts suggested that OGRA had proposed a major increase in petroleum prices.
The posts claimed petrol could rise by Rs73.40 per litre and diesel by Rs84.95 per litre.
OGRA clarified that no such summary had been sent to the Prime Minister’s Office, and the figures being shared online were not based on any official proposal.
The authority said the reports appeared to be rumours aimed at creating confusion among the public.
Public appeal by OGRA
OGRA advised people to rely only on information issued through official channels.
The spokesperson also urged social media users not to share unverified news about petroleum prices.
Officials said spreading incorrect information can cause unnecessary concern and may lead to speculation about fuel availability and prices.
The clarification comes at a time when the government is closely monitoring the country’s fuel supply situation.
Officials say oil tankers from Gulf countries have started arriving in Pakistan as part of routine supply operations.
Authorities are also working to maintain a stable availability of petroleum products across the country.
Authorities say fuel reserves are sufficient
The spokesperson added that Pakistan currently has sufficient fuel reserves, and there is no immediate reason for concern about supply.
Officials also warned that misinformation about fuel prices can sometimes be used to create unnecessary panic or artificial shortages in the market.
For now, OGRA says the public should wait for official announcements regarding petroleum prices rather than relying on rumours circulating online.
