Oman has agreed to review a proposal from Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz Sharif to make it easier for skilled workers from Punjab to enter Oman.
Where was the proposal discussed?
The proposal was discussed during a meeting between Maryam Nawaz and Oman’s Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, Saud bin Hamoud bin Ahmed Al Habsi, in Muscat.
The two sides also talked about cooperation in agriculture, fisheries, livestock and aquaculture.
How will Punjab and Oman work together?

The Omani minister also offered support for setting up Punjab’s first shrimp centre.
CM Maryam said that Punjab is ready to export high-quality meat to Oman at competitive prices. She added that efforts would be made to increase exports of livestock for milk and meat production.
The chief minister said Punjab started pilot shrimp farming projects last year to promote aquaculture.
How can Pakistanis get jobs in Oman?
The Omani minister said Oman still needs a large number of skilled workers. He praised the talent and abilities of Pakistani youth and said workers from Punjab could find opportunities in construction, agriculture, aquaculture and other sectors.
He also assured that Oman would share information with Punjab about jobs and labour needs in different fields.
Where is shrimp farming taking place?
Maryam Nawaz said shrimp farming trials are already under way in Shah Garh and Ali Wala areas of Muzaffargarh and also in Sargodha.
She said Pakistan’s first modern aquaculture mall and shrimp diagnostic laboratory will be built in Shah Garh.
According to the chief minister, Punjab is using modern machinery and farming methods. These methods are based on successful models from China, Norway, Vietnam and Indonesia.
She said the provincial government plans to expand shrimp farming to 30,000 acres in Punjab, including areas of Bahawalpur.
