Punjab govt introduces new land reforms
In February, the government of Punjab enacted two new ordinances designed to reform land management and enhance property rights, thereby diminishing the involvement of patwaris in property transfers.
According to the new framework, patwaris will now be restricted to managing inheritance-related mutations, while the majority of land transfers will transition to a completely digital system.
The two ordinances, namely the Punjab Land Revenue (Amendment) Ordinance 2026 and the Immovable Property Ownership Protection (Amendment) Ordinance 2026, were formally issued by Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider.
