One UI 8.5 leak reveals Samsung’s new image editing feature

One UI 8.5 image editing

Samsung appears to be preparing another step forward in its push for AI-powered smartphone features, with a new tool spotted in a leaked build of One UI 8.5 for the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7.

The company has been steadily adding smarter image tools since One UI 6.1, and the latest development suggests an easier, more natural way to edit photos directly through text.

According to details found in the early software build, users will soon be able to mix, match, add, or remove objects in an image by simply typing what they want changed. After selecting the Galaxy AI option inside the phone’s Gallery app, a text field appears under Photo Assist.

From there, users can describe exactly how they want a picture to look, making the entire process more straightforward than navigating through menus.

This would mark an upgrade from the current method, where text-based editing is limited to the Drawing Assist section on a few high-end Samsung models.

How it works

The feature is designed to let users combine images and create natural-looking results through generative AI. For example, if someone wants to make a photo of their cat more playful, they can select a picture of a ball or yarn from their gallery and then ask Galaxy AI to blend it into the scene. The system then generates a version that shows the cat interacting with the new object.

Although the feature is described in the Tips app on One UI 8.5 for the Galaxy Z Fold 7, it is not functional yet. It also does not appear on the Galaxy S25 series running the first beta of One UI 8.5, which was released recently.

Samsung is expected to enable it in upcoming beta updates or introduce it formally with the Galaxy S26 series early next year.

If rolled out as expected, the tool could make photo editing more accessible for everyday users, offering a simple text-based approach instead of complex image editing skills.
