Registration now mandatory for online bike riders

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar police have made registration mandatory for all bike riders and launched a dedicated mobile application for strict monitoring and public safety.

The CCPO Peshawar Mian Saeed, the newly launched Safe Ride app assist motorcycle riders to register their details digitally, whereas those unable to use the app can visit their nearest police station for manual registration.

Once registered, riders will receive a QR code sticker to be placed on their motorcycle.

The initiative will help deter criminal activity, as all registered motorcycles will be integrated into the Peshawar Police’s central database, the CCPO added.

The development came after several incidents in which bike riders were found involved in snatching and robbery attempts across Peshawar.

So far, police have arrested over ten suspects linked to these crimes.

The concerned authorities said that the new system aims to protect citizens, safeguard riders’ livelihoods, and give law enforcement better tools to identify and track offenders.

M-Tag Points Set Up in Islamabad

In order to facilitate the public, the district administration earlier set up additional M-Tag points in Islamabad.

10 M-Tag centres in Islamabad are fully operational for the facilitation of the public. More staff has also been deployed at these centres so the process could be expedited and there is less rush.

According to the Islamabad administration, in view of rising rush one more M-Tag centre has been set up at Parade Ground.

The administration has advised residents to visit the new centre to avoid long queues, adding that motorists can get their M-Tags issued immediately at the Parade Ground facility.

Vehicles without M-Tags are being identified through scanners placed at various points, and the administration has warned that strict action will be taken against vehicles found without the tag.

The process of installing M-Tags on vehicles in the federal capital is moving ahead rapidly. According to the district administration, 49,551 vehicles have received M-Tags since November 14, while another 2,875 vehicles were registered in the 24 hours.

Officials said that once the system is fully functional, vehicles found without an M-Tag may face hefty fines or even be taken to police stations. The Safe City team is also finalising technical integration to ensure accurate identification of vehicles across the city’s surveillance network.
