Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has witnessed a sharp decline in terrorist incidents following the launch of ‘Operation Ghazb lil Haq’ targeting militants in Afghanistan, in what officials are calling a major success for security forces.
According to official documents, the operation was launched on the night of February 26–27. Since then, terrorist incidents in the province have dropped by 65%.
Data shows that before the operation, 240 incidents of terrorism had been reported in KP this year. Following the crackdown, the number has reduced significantly to 80 so far.
Officials stated that the figures reflect the effectiveness of coordinated security measures and cross-border targeting of militant networks like Fitna al Khawarij, backed by Fitna al Hindustan.
Overall, a total of 323 terrorist incidents have been reported in the province this year. However, experts believe that the recent decrease demonstrates that terrorism can be effectively controlled through a coordinated strategy.
Speaking on the matter, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry stated that significant improvements have been seen due to the targeting of terrorists and their safe havens. He affirmed that the government is committed to eradicating terrorism from the country at all costs.
He added that during Operation Ghazb lil Haq, key masterminds behind several attacks, including those in Islamabad and Bannu, were killed.
In addition, several high-risk terrorists who were operating from Afghan territory against Pakistan were eliminated. He also noted that the Afghan Taliban regime had been informed about the hideouts of the banned organisation Tehreek-e-Taliban Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Shahab Ali Shah, stated that the operation has had a positive impact on the law and order situation in the province. He emphasised that operations against terrorists will continue and that security forces are fully prepared to respond to any threat.
He further said that the reduction in terrorist incidents is the result of a coordinated and effective strategy involving the Pakistan Army, police, and other law enforcement agencies, all of whom played a crucial role in restoring peace through joint efforts.
He concluded that the operation not only weakened terrorist networks but also significantly reduced their operational capacity by targeting cross-border safe havens. If such operations continue with the same consistency, further improvements in the security situation can be expected in the coming months.
