Over 300 earthquakes recorded in the UK this year

Web Desk: Across the United Kingdom more than 300 earthquakes have been recorded in 2025 as per the survey report by the British Geological Survey (BGS). Nationwide 309 earthquakes had been documented by December 18, 2025.   

 “Two stronger earthquakes occurred on October 20 in the Scottish regions of Loch Leven and Kinross, with magnitudes of 3.7 and 3.6” the report said.

During October and December, residents in the Loch Leven area felt 34 tremors.

The Western Scotland was identified as one of the most seismically active regions in the country. In December Lancashire also experienced two minor earthquakes, each measuring 2.5 in magnitude.

According to the BGS, the UK typically experiences between 200 and 300 earthquakes every year, though only 20 to 30 are usually felt by people. This year, 1,320 individuals reported feeling earthquake tremors.

Earthquakes across the country are monitored through a network of 80 seismic monitoring stations, the report added.

Earthquake with a magnitude of 2.4 jolts Quetta

Earlier it was reported that an earthquake hit Quetta leaving people in fear.

According to the Richter scale, the magnitude of the earthquake was 2.4, which is considered to be the mild stage of an earthquake.

There was panic among the public; they were all in shock.

According to the media reports, there was no major loss.

According to the Seismological Centre, the depth of the tremor recorded was 10 kilometres.

The epicentre was towards the northwest side of Quetta, ranging 38 kilometres.

The officials confirmed that no casualties and infrastructure damage reported till now.

Balochistan became a hub of tremors for the past few months.

It is quite alarming that the ratio of experiencing earthquakes is increasing, particularly in this area.

It was also reported that tremors were felt in part of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Dir, Chitral and other surrounding areas.

As per details, the earthquake caused brief panic among residents; however, no casualties were reported.

According to the seismological centre, the tremors were also felt in Malakand and Landikotal and their surrounding areas.

The National Seismological Centre reported that the earthquake measured 5.7 on the Richter scale and occurred at a depth of 12 kilometres, making the tremors noticeable across a wide region.

The epicentre was located in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, an area known for frequent seismic activity due to tectonic plate movements.
