In order to improve the quality of theatre productions and promote the concept of family-friendly entertainment the Punjab Arts Council (PAC) has banned 106 Punjabi songs.
The inner sources revealed that PAC in collaboration with the Punjab Information and Culture Department has banned 106 Punjabi songs from being performed in theatre plays across the province.
Mostly the banned songs contain content deemed contrary to moral and cultural values and putting negative impact on young generation.
While providing the detail of banned songs official stated that the complete list of the 106 banned songs has been circulated to all theatres across Punjab, including Lahore, to ensure strict implementation of the directive by drama producers and theatre management. “The primary objective of this move is to make theatre a centre of quality entertainment and provide clean, wholesome content for audiences,” an official said.
The Culture Department further announced that stage monitoring teams will no longer censor these songs during performances. Instead, theatres found using any of the banned songs will face strict action for violating the instructions.
Authorities have urged theatre owners and producers to comply with the new policy, emphasizing that the initiative aims to revive traditional theatre values and attract families back to stage performances.
It was worth mentioned here that PAC, working under the Punjab government’s Information and Culture Department, does not have direct authority over the entire Punjabi music industry, but it regulates live stage performances and theatrical productions within the province. The recent actions are part of a broader government effort to curb obscenity and vulgarity in public entertainment.
Punjab Information and Culture Minister viewed that the goal is to transform drama theatres into venues suitable for family entertainment by clamping down on vulgarity and indecency.
