“Records are meant to be broken”: Skipper Sana vows to beat India

Pak vs India Fatima Sana

After the three consecutive losses by the men in green, Pakistan women’s team skipper Fatima Sana vows to beat arch-rivals India in ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, set to be played on today here at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium.

Speaking during the pre-match press conference, the skipper stated that “Records are meant to be broken. It is not true that we will never win against India. We can beat any team by playing good cricket. We have good memories of playing against India in the past.”

The 23-year-old highlighted upcoming matches and aimed for improved performances, saying that “Coaches told me to believe in myself. Losing one match doesn’t matter; the whole tournament is still ahead. We don’t think about outside distractions.”

“Diana Baig is a very good player, and she supports the youngsters. Hopefully, we will deliver better performances in the coming matches. Muneeba Ali has performed in the past; you can’t drop a player after just one or two matches. Senior players’ support is very important for me.”

Fatima Sana remained confident despite Pakistan trailing India 0-11 in the head-to-head record in women’s ODIs.

Earlier, in a separate incident, Sana Mir, former captain of Pakistan’s women’s cricket team, became a target of Indian propaganda seeking to politicise sports.

Commentator Sana Mir, found her name trending among the top topics on Indian social media platforms when during the ICC Women’s World Cup match between Bangladesh and Pakistan she introduced a Pakistani player from Azad Kashmir

While on air, Mir had introduced Pakistan’s Natalia Parvaiz, saying that she hails from Azad Kashmir. The mention of Azad Kashmir angered Indian viewers, leading to propaganda and a hate campaign against the former Pakistan captain on Indian social media platforms.
