Muslim nations, including Pakistan, on Tuesday denounced the Israeli action to designate land in the occupied West Bank in Palestine as “state property,” asserting that this move signifies an effort to “impose a new legal and administrative reality aimed at solidifying control over the occupied territory.”
Sources indicate that the Israeli government has sanctioned a proposal to classify extensive regions of the occupied West Bank as “state property” for the first time since the onset of the Israeli occupation in 1967.
It constitutes a blatant breach of international law that prohibits an occupying power from seizing land in occupied areas.
Israel’s foreign ministry contended that the measure, which was approved late on Sunday, would facilitate a “transparent and thorough clarification of rights to resolve legal disputes.”
However, this action has faced widespread condemnation globally for its infringement of international law.
Pakistan defends Palestine
In a collective statement released on Tuesday, the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Egypt, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar expressed their strong disapproval of the Israeli initiative.
“This unlawful action represents a serious escalation aimed at hastening illegal settlement activities, land appropriation, entrenching Israeli dominance, and enforcing unlawful Israeli sovereignty over the Occupied Palestinian Territory, thereby undermining the legitimate rights of the Palestinian populace,” the joint statement articulated.
“The ministers assert that these actions constitute a blatant violation of international law and international humanitarian law, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention, as well as a breach of pertinent United Nations Security Council resolutions, most notably Resolution 2334,” they stated.
