Pakistan Ranks in the Global Top 10 for Mobile App Downloads

Pakistan app downloads

Pakistan recorded 3.56 billion app downloads in 2024, ranking ninth worldwide, per Data Darbar reports.

Usage grows as Pakistanis spend more time in apps

To begin with, Pakistan’s engagement with mobile apps expanded in 2024. Total time spent reached 79.1 billion hours, which represented a 14.1 percent increase from 2023.

Meanwhile, average mobile data usage rose to 8.4 gigabytes per user per month, and nationwide broadband consumption exceeded 13,000 petabytes.

These figures show that smartphones now shape daily routines, entertainment, and commerce.

Furthermore, Pakistan placed twelfth for total hours, which reinforces audience scale. Consequently, the country’s demand growth is measurable.

Local app creation slows despite booming demand

However, developer activity did not keep pace with consumption. Active Pakistani developers fell by 26 percent to 1,400 in 2024.

In addition, Android releases dropped by 55 percent to 1,700 titles. Across platforms, only 2,500 new apps launched, including 1,053 games and 784 iOS apps.

As a result, the gap widened between user momentum and domestic output. Moreover, the slowdown signals hurdles in monetisation, investment, and retention.

Therefore, targeted training, easier payments, and clearer scale pathways could translate audience size into sustainable local creation.

Short video and social tools dominate downloads

Meanwhile, download leaders reflected everyday priorities. TikTok ranked first in Pakistan with 32.4 million installs. Next, CapCut recorded 27.1 million downloads, which underscores the link between editing and sharing.

Then, Facebook secured 24.3 million installs, while WhatsApp reached 22.7 million.

In addition, WhatsApp Business drew 20.9 million downloads as merchants and service providers formalised customer communication.

Together, these results show that short video, social connectivity, and small business tools command the largest audiences.

Consequently, platforms that combine creation, distribution, and commerce continue to define the country’s mobile experience.
