Pakistan calls for de-escalation in Venezuela

Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said that the country urges restraint and de-escalation to end the crisis in Venezuela.

“Pakistan attaches great importance to the well-being of the people of Venezuela and views with concern the evolving situation”, the ministry said.

It added, “We are closely monitoring the developments and remain engaged in ensuring the safety and security of members of the Pakistani community there.”

Recently, a protest was held in Amsterdam against the US military intervention in Venezuela that captured President Nicolas Maduro and flew him out of the country to face drug-trafficking charges.

Protesters waved Venezuelan flags and carried placards reading “Hands off Venezuela”, “Stop US imperialism”, “No blood for oil,” and “Trump terrorist”.

The governments of Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Uruguay, and Spain have released a statement, accusing the US of setting “an extremely dangerous precedent for peace and regional security and endangering the civilian population.”

The countries say they want a solution to the Venezuela situation to come from peaceful means such as dialogue and negotiation.

They also express concern about external control that is “incompatible with international law” and “threatens the political, economic, and social stability of the region”.
