Pakistan Test cricketer and T20I captain Salman Ali Agha has made it clear that the Pakistan national cricket team will go for a win rather than play for a draw in the ongoing Test against the Bangladesh national cricket team.
Speaking to the media after the fourth day of the Dhaka Test, he said the team’s immediate focus is to bowl out Bangladesh early on the final day before attempting to chase the target for victory.
Salman expressed confidence in the team’s approach, saying Pakistan remains determined to push for a positive result in the match.
The Pakistani batter added that with the introduction of the ICC World Test Championship, teams now prepare pitches according to their own strengths in order to achieve results.
Salman said Pakistan performed well with the bat on the second day despite losing wickets early, while he described the third day as a mixed one for the team.
He further stated that in Test cricket, the main objective is always to win matches. However, he noted that chasing a target of around 300 runs in 30 to 40 overs on the fifth day can be extremely difficult.
The all-rounder praised Pakistan’s fast bowlers for their performance in the match and said the team would look to dismiss Bangladesh quickly on the final day. He added that only Bangladesh could reveal what strategy they plan to adopt.
Salman Ali Agha also pointed out that before the World Test Championship, pitches were often prepared in a way that resulted in drawn matches, but modern Test cricket now focuses more on producing positive results.
