Pakistan emerges as key mediator in high-stakes US, Iran negotiations

A wave of optimism is emerging in global diplomatic circles following reports that a landmark peace-related agreement involving the United States and Iran could be finalised within the next 24 hours.

According to the emerging narrative, preparations are underway for an electronic signing process, followed by technical-level talks expected to continue next week. If finalised, the agreement could carry significant implications for regional stability, trade reforms, and broader conflict resolution efforts.

The initiative is being attributed in reports to facilitation efforts involving Pakistan’s top leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, who have played an important role in encouraging dialogue between the United States and Iran.

Earlier, Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif announced that a peace deal between Iran and the United States (US) is expected within 24 hours.

In a post on X, PM Sharif said, “We are closer to a peace deal than ever before. With finalisation likely expected in the next 24 hours, Pakistan is preparing for the electronic signing of the deal immediately after, followed by technical-level talks next week.”

He thanked the US and Iran for their commitment during the talks and those in the region for their support. “We would like to thank the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran for their ongoing commitment during the negotiations, and we extend our sincere appreciation to our brothers in the region for their support. We are confident that this historic peace deal will form a strong foundation for lasting peace”, he added.
