Pakistan has expressed strong strategic backing for Saudi Arabia in light of escalating tensions with Iran.
Army chief of Pakistan, Field Marshal Asim Munir, engaged in high-level security discussions with Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.
This meeting occurs amidst rising tensions in the Middle East involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, with numerous Gulf nations voicing concerns regarding Iranian military activities.
During their discussions, the two parties addressed what Saudi officials referred to as Iranian assaults and aggressions against the kingdom.
They further examined strategies to counter these actions within the context of the existing strategic defense agreement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Defense Minister stresses on protecting regional stability
Pakistan has expressed strong strategic backing for Saudi Arabia in light of escalating tensions with Iran.
“We deliberated on Iranian assaults on the Kingdom and the actions required to stop them within the framework of our Joint Strategic Defence Agreement,” he stated, emphasising that such activities pose a threat to the overall security landscape of the region.
Both parties agreed that ongoing escalation could harm regional stability and urged Iran to exercise restraint and avoid miscalculations.
As per security sources acquainted with the discussions, Field Marshal Munir assured the Saudi leadership that Pakistan is prepared to extend defense and strategic support to the kingdom should its security be threatened.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia agree on military coordination
The discussions also aimed at strengthening joint military coordination and operational frameworks between the two nations amid the current Middle East crisis.
Officials deliberated on mechanisms for improved intelligence sharing, defense collaboration, and coordinated responses to emerging threats in the region.
The meeting was also attended by Saudi Arabia’s Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Fayyadh bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili, along with intelligence adviser Professor Hisham bin Abdulaziz bin Saif.
