Pakistan rejects US official remarks that its missile capability poses a threat

Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Tahir Andrabi has rejected recent comments made by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence regarding Pakistan’s missile programme, on Thursday.

In an official statement issued in response to media queries, the Foreign Office said Pakistan categorically rejects the claim by a US official that the country’s missile capabilities could pose a potential threat.

The spokesperson said that Pakistan’s strategic capabilities are purely defensive and they are meant to protect national sovereignty, this while maintaining peace and stability in South Asia.

He added that Pakistan’s missile programme is based on the policy of credible minimum deterrence in relation to India.

The statement also pointed to India’s missile developments. He also noted that its missiles now exceed a range of 12,000 kilometres.

It said such developments go beyond regional security needs and are a matter of concern for neighbouring countries and others.

Pakistan reiterated its commitment to constructive engagement with the United States (US).

The Foreign Office said this engagement should be based on mutual respect, non discrimination and factual accuracy.

The spokesperson urged a more balanced and careful approach that supports peace, security and stability across South Asia.

Pak Navy conducts surface to air missile live firing

Recently, Pakistan Navy successfully conducted a Live Weapon Firing (LWF) of the FM-90(N) ER Surface to Air Missile in the North Arabian Sea.

During the firepower demonstration, a Pakistan Navy ship effectively engaged highly manoeuvrable aerial targets, reaffirming the Navy’s war fighting capability and combat readiness.

Commander Pakistan Fleet witnessed the live firing at sea onboard a Pakistan Navy Fleet unit.

Commander Pakistan Fleet commended the officers and men involved for their high level of professionalism, dedication, and operational competence.

He reiterated Pakistan Navy’s unwavering resolve to ensure the seaward defence of Pakistan and to safeguard national maritime interests under all circumstances.
