Web desk: Pakistan Navy has launched the fourth Hangor-class submarine, named GHAZI, at the Shuangliu Base in Wuhan, China, on Wednesday, according to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
With this milestone, all four submarines under construction in China are now undergoing rigorous sea trials and are in the final stages before being handed over to Pakistan.
The Government of Pakistan had signed an agreement with China to acquire eight Hangor-class submarines.
The statement read, “The Government of Pakistan signed an agreement with China for the acquisition of eight HANGOR Class submarines. Under this contract, four submarines are being built in China, and the remaining four will be constructed in Pakistan by Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works Ltd (KS&EW), under Transfer of Technology (ToT).”
Under the deal, four submarines are being built in China. And the remaining four will be constructed in Pakistan at Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works Ltd (KS&EW) under a Transfer of Technology (ToT) arrangement.
These submarines will be equipped with advanced weapons and sensors, capable of engaging targets at standoff ranges.
The statement further read, “These Submarines will be fitted with advanced weapons and sensors capable of engaging targets at standoff ranges.”
It further added, “HANGOR Class submarines will be pivotal in maintaining peace and stability in the region.”
The Hangor-class submarines are expected to play a key role in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
The launching ceremony was attended by senior officials from both Pakistan and China, highlighting the deepening cooperation between the two countries.
Pakistan, China begin joint exercise
Previously, Pakistan Army and China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) have started Warrior-IX, the ninth round of their annual joint counter-terrorism exercise, according to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The latest edition began on 1 December 2025 and aims to boost joint capacity for modern counter-terror operations.
The exercise focuses on improving coordination, sharpening professional skills and sharing operational experience. It also highlights the depth of Pakistan–China defence ties, built on trust, strategic cooperation and a shared goal of regional stability.
Senior officers from both sides attended the opening ceremony at the National Counter Terrorism Center (NCTC) in Pabbi.
