The Pakistan Navy has launched Operation Muhafiz ul Bahr to protect national shipping and maritime trade on March 09, 2026.
The move comes during the time of rising regional maritime security concerns and potential threats to important sea routes.
Pakistan Navy launches operation to protect shipping and trade
The operation has been designed to make sure that Pakistan’s energy supplies and trade routes are safe and not interrupted.
Navy ships are escorting merchant vessels in coordination with the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) to make their passage safe.
Currently, two merchant ships are under escort. And one is scheduled to arrive in Karachi today.
Around 90 per cent of Pakistan’s trade is conducted via sea. That is why the safety of sea routes is very important.
The Pakistan Navy said it is monitoring all merchant vessels and is prepared to respond to any maritime security challenges.
Officials have also said that the operation will help in making sure the safety of national shipping and regional maritime security.
Pakistan Navy launches fourth Hangor-Class Submarine “GHAZI” in China
Pakistan Navy previously launched the fourth Hangor-class submarine, named GHAZI, at the Shuangliu Base in Wuhan, China, according to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
With this milestone, all four submarines under construction in China are now undergoing rigorous sea trials. And are in the final stages before being handed over to Pakistan.
The Government of Pakistan had signed an agreement with China to acquire eight Hangor-class submarines.
Under the deal, four submarines are being built in China. And the remaining four will be constructed in Pakistan at Karachi Shipyard. And Engineering Works Ltd (KS&EW) under a Transfer of Technology (ToT) arrangement.
