In an official statement issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Sunday, February 22, after 02:00 AM, it was stated that ‘despite repeated efforts by Pakistan to urge the Afghan Taliban Regime to take verifiable measures to deny use of Afghan Territory by terrorist groups and foreign proxies to carry out Terrorist activities in Pakistan, the Afghan Taliban Regime failed to undertake any substantive action against them.’
Following recent attacks in Pakistan, including the one in Islamabad, one each in Bajaur and Bannu, followed by another incident today in Bannu during the holy month of Ramzan, Pakistan has conclusive evidence that these acts of terrorism were perpetrated by Khwarij on the behest of their Afghanistan based leadership and handlers.
Pakistan says responsibility for the attacks was claimed by Afghanistan based Pakistani Taliban groups belonging to Fitna al Khwarij (FAK) and their affiliates, as well as the Islamic State in Khorasan Province (ISKP).
Despite repeated requests, Pakistan says the Afghan Taliban regime has not taken meaningful action. To prevent these groups from using Afghan territory to launch attacks in Pakistan.
In response, Pakistan carried out intelligence-based, selective strikes on seven terrorist camps and hideouts of FAK, its affiliates. And ISKP along the Pakistan Afghanistan border. The strikes were carried out with precision.
Pakistan has called on the Afghan Taliban to prevent terrorists from using Afghan soil against Pakistan. And urged the international community to encourage the Taliban to fulfil their commitments under the Doha Agreement.
Pakistan emphasised that the safety and security of its citizens remain its top priority.
The statement read, “Pakistan expects and reiterates Interim Afghan Government to fulfil its obligations and deny use of its soil by Khwarij and terrorists against Pakistan. As the safety and security of people of Pakistan comes first and foremost. Pakistan also expects the international community to play a positive. And constructive role by urging the Taliban regime to stand by its commitments. As part of Doha Agreement to deny use of its soil against other countries. An act vital for regional and global peace and security.”
