Pakistan Post will introduce revised tariffs for domestic mail and postal services from October 1, with increased rates for walk-in customers. The revised tariff structure was approved by the Pakistan Postal Services Management Board during a meeting held on August 12.
According to media reports, under the new tariff structure, the postage for a standard letter will be Rs. 40 for up to 20 grams, Rs. 80 for up to 50 grams, and Rs. 400 for up to 2 kilograms. The registration fee for a registered letter will be Rs. 40. As a result, sending a registered letter weighing up to 20 grams will cost Rs. 80, while a registered letter weighing up to 2 kilograms will cost Rs. 440. An additional Value Payable (VP) fee of Rs. 20 will be charged for Value Payable Letters (VPL).
The registration fee for registered parcels has been increased to Rs. 80. The cost of sending a parcel weighing up to 1 kilogram will therefore be Rs. 260, while a 30-kilogram parcel will cost Rs. 1,660. An additional charge of Rs. 30 per kilogram will apply to parcels weighing more than 30 kilograms.
For Value Payable Parcels (VPP), the charges will be Rs. 280 for parcels weighing up to 1 kilogram and Rs. 1,680 for parcels weighing up to 30 kilograms. Postal rates for printed materials and textbooks have also been revised. The cost of sending educational books will be Rs. 50 for items weighing up to 250 grams and Rs. 360 for items weighing up to 7 kilograms. Charges for small packets will range from Rs. 20 to Rs. 80.
However, the mailing of specialised literature for visually impaired persons, weighing up to 7 kilograms, will remain completely free of charge. For the Urgent Mail Service (UMS), the local delivery rate will be Rs. 100 for up to 250 grams, while inter-city delivery will cost Rs. 170. For UMS Cash on Delivery (COD), the local rate will be Rs. 75, while charges for other cities will start at Rs. 110.
