Pakistan, Qatar vow support for lasting peace in Middle East

Pakistan and Qatar on Sunday reaffirmed their commitment to support ongoing efforts for lasting peace and dialogue in the region.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani discussed the regional situation and peace efforts during a telephone conversation.

In a post on X, PM Shehbaz said both leaders reviewed progress on initiatives aimed at promoting regional stability.

The prime minister also thanked Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for his leadership and Qatar’s continued support for Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace through dialogue and diplomacy.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, both leaders exchanged views on recent developments and stressed the need for constructive engagement from all sides to make peace efforts successful.

During the conversation, PM Shehbaz said he was looking forward to the upcoming visit of the Qatari emir to Pakistan. He added that the visit would help further strengthen ties and expand cooperation between Pakistan and Qatar.

The phone call came as Pakistan continued diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East following the US-Israel attacks on Iran on February 28.

Pakistan also played an important mediating role between Tehran and Washington during and after the six-week conflict, which ended on April 8 with a ceasefire brokered by Pakistan.
