Karachi is all set to witness the construction of a landmark Burj Khalifa-inspired high-rise as DHA City Karachi and ABS Developers have officially signed an agreement to develop the “Burj Quaid,” an 82-storey skyscraper planned within the DHA City project.
Once completed, the tower is expected to soar to a height of around 941 feet, making it the tallest building in Pakistan. The mega structure will cover an area of nearly six acres and is projected to be completed within six years.
Officials say the project could play a significant role in boosting commercial activity, attracting both local and foreign investment, and supporting the expansion of modern urban infrastructure in Karachi.
The development comes at a time when interest in vertical construction is rising across major Pakistani cities, especially Karachi and Islamabad.
Earlier in a separate development, authorities decided to launch a strict citywide operation involving SHOs of all relevant police stations as part of a major crackdown against encroachments and illegal occupations in Karachi is set to begin soon.
Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah issued a stern warning. If any complaint regarding encroachments is received in areas falling under the Revenue Department, Anti-Encroachment Department, Police or any Development Authority, strict action will be taken against the responsible officers.
He announced that FIRs would be registered against negligent officials and arrests would also be made if authorities fail to act against illegal occupations and encroachments.
An important meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Local Government Minister to discuss action against the encroachment mafia. The meeting was attended by Provincial Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, Mayor Murtaza Wahab, Member of Sindh Assembly Qasim Soomro, and other senior government officials. Additional IG Karachi, the Deputy Commissioner West, SSP West, and the Directors General of KDA, MDA, and LDA were also present at the meeting.
During the meeting, it was decided that a strict operation would be launched against the growing encroachments and illegal occupations in the city.
