Pakistan has confirmed its participation in the upcoming T20 Cricket World Cup but announced that it will not play the scheduled match against India.
The decision came after PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, during which an important decision regarding the country’s T-20 World Cup participation was made.
Following the meeting, the government officially stated that Pakistan would compete in the tournament, while opting out of the February 15 clash against India.
The development marks a significant move ahead of the T20 World Cup, as teams prepare for the high-profile tournament.
Last week PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, in a conversation with national cricketers, had stated that the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s stance is based on principles. “We supported Bangladesh while keeping the golden rules of cricket in mind. Our players are talented, and success in any field comes from teamwork,” he added.
Mohsin Naqvi emphasised that politicised cricket is not in anyone’s interest. “We will fully implement the decision of the Pakistani government regarding the World Cup,” he said.
It should be noted that the government has decided not to play the match against India as a protest, in a show of solidarity with Pakistan.
Earlier, the International Cricket Council (ICC) had rejected all of Bangladesh’s reservations and excluded it from the event, along with the Scottish team, in the T20 World Cup.
According to sources, the national team will leave for Sri Lanka tomorrow, Monday, to participate in the T20 World Cup.
