Web desk: Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of its citizens and maintaining regional stability when Foreign Office (FO) Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan addressed his weekly media briefing in Islamabad.

He said the country’s security forces are conducting targeted operations in border areas to counter terrorist threats and protect the population, underscoring Pakistan’s continued resolve to fight militancy and promote peace with Afghanistan.

He said that Pakistan’s security forces and law enforcement agencies are carrying out precise and intelligence-based operations in border areas to safeguard citizens from terrorist threats, especially those posed by groups such as Fitna-al-Khwarij and the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

These actions, he added, are based on credible information collected through close coordination among relevant departments.

Shafqat Ali Khan stressed that Pakistan respects Afghanistan’s sovereignty and remains committed to dialogue and cooperation with its neighbour to address common security challenges.

He said Pakistan continues to prefer diplomacy, even while facing threats from militants operating from safe havens across the border.

The spokesperson urged the Afghan authorities to ensure that their territory is not used for launching terrorist attacks against Pakistan.

He said groups like the TTP are a shared threat to regional peace and stability, and both countries must work together to eliminate their networks and curb their influence.

He further said that Pakistan believes peace in the region depends on Afghanistan’s stability, which requires firm action against terrorist organisations.

According to him, both countries have a shared responsibility to defeat terrorism and promote lasting security.

The spokesperson also spoke about Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts at the international level, mentioning that Special Representative to Afghanistan, Ambassador Muhammad Sadiq, recently attended the Quadripartite Group meetings in Moscow with China, Iran, and Russia.

Ambassador Sadiq also joined the Moscow Format discussions to strengthen regional cooperation on security.

During his visit, the ambassador met with Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi and senior diplomats from the participating nations.

The meetings focused on strengthening joint commitments to fight terrorism, promote stability, and encourage political dialogue for long-term peace in the region.
