Pakistan is in deep trouble in the first Test against England as the hosts secured a commanding 238-run first-innings lead after being bowled out for 409 on Day 3 at Headingley on Friday.
England, resuming their innings at 366-8, added another 43 runs before losing their final two wickets. Jofra Archer played a crucial late cameo, scoring 23 runs with two fours and a six before being left without partners.
Khurram Shahzad claimed both remaining wickets, dismissing wicketkeeper Jamie Smith for 25 after he miscued a pull shot to midwicket before clean bowling Josh Tongue for 8.
Despite taking three wickets, Khurram Shahzad proved expensive, finishing with figures of 3-133.
England’s 409-run total gives them a huge 238-run lead over Pakistan, who were bowled out for just 171 in less than two sessions on the opening day.
The massive first-innings deficit leaves Pakistan under significant pressure as they begin their second innings, with England firmly in control of the Test.
