RAWALPINDI: Pakistan won the toss and opted to field first against Sri Lanka in the second One-Day International of three-match cricket series in Rawalpindi today (Friday).
Pakistan’s ODI captain, Shaheen Afridi, has been ruled out of the second ODI after falling ill with the flu.
“Shaheen is unwell, and Faheem also misses out. Abrar Ahmed and Wasim Jr come in,” stand-in skipper Salman Ali Agha said at the toss.
Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by six runs in the first ODI. Batting first, Pakistan scored 299 runs for loss of five wickets in stipulated fifty overs.
In reply, Sri Lanka made 293 runs for the loss of nine wickets in fifty overs. Salman Agha with 105 runs and Hussain Talat with 62 runs remained the main scorers from Pakistan’s side.
Head to head
On head to head, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have faced each other in 157 ODIs to date, with Pakistan winning 93 and Sri Lanka 59. One match ended in a tie and four ended in no result. On Pakistan soil, the two teams have played 30 ODIs, with Pakistan holding an 18-12 advantage.
The last bilateral ODI series between the sides in Pakistan was played in 2019, which Pakistan won 2-0.

Revised schedule
It is pertinent to mention here that PCB announced a new schedule for tri nation and Sri Lanka series. Under the revised schedule, the remaining ODI matches between Pakistan and Sri Lanka will now be played on 14th (today) and 16th November 2025 instead of 13th and 15th at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
The Pakistan Cricket Board further stated that “the T20I Tri-Nation Tournament shall now completely be played in Rawalpindi, commencing 18 November, with the final scheduled for 29 November 2025.”
Moreover, PCB added that the T20I Tri-Nation Tournament, featuring Pakistan (hosts), Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe, “will serve as an important preparatory platform ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.”
Concluding the statement, the PCB noted that “the updated fixtures for both the ODI series and the T20I Tri-Nation Tournament will be shared shortly on the PCB’s official platforms.”
These new arrangements give energetic crowd of Rawalpindi to witness more competitive cricket for the whole month of November. Which includes both the remainder of the Pakistan-Sri Lanka ODI series and the entire Tri-Nation T20 tournament, featuring competitive cricket ahead of a packed 2026 international season.
