Officials from the Meteorological Department say it is too early to confirm whether the systems will bring rain or snowfall.
The weather models are being closely monitored to track developments, they added.
Two westerly wind systems are expected to enter Pakistan this month, according to the Meteorological Department.
The first system is forecast to arrive in mid-December and will be largely confined to the northern areas, the department’s Deputy Director said.
The second system is likely to enter the country towards the end of December, added Irfan Virk.
Speaking about the potential impact, Virk noted that it is too early to confirm whether either system will bring rain or snow.
“The entry of westerly winds is one thing, but whether they result in rainfall or snowfall is another,” he said.
This means that these systems may bring cold and dry winds to the country. However, whether they will cause rain or snow is not confirmed yet.
The Meteorological Department assured that weather models are being continuously monitored to track developments and provide timely updates.
Karachi weather
The Meteorological Department has forecast that cold winds will begin blowing in Karachi from December 8, potentially adding to the city’s chill.
According to officials, a western weather system is currently affecting northern areas of the country as well as parts of Balochistan.
As a result, temperatures in Karachi are expected to drop by one to two degrees from Tuesday, making the weather feel cooler.
The Chief Meteorologist in Karachi noted that the cold conditions in Balochistan caused by the western system could also impact the city.
Northeastern winds from Balochistan may make Karachi feel colder for much of the time.
However, he added that there is no expectation of an intense cold wave in Karachi until mid-December.
Minimum temperatures are likely to range between 12 and 14 degrees Celsius. While maximum temperatures are expected to remain between 27 and 29 degrees Celsius.
The Chief Meteorologist also stated that the incoming western wind system is not expected to bring rain to Karachi at this time.
