Foreign Office on Thursday categorically said that Pakistan will not become part of Abraham Accord, adding that we desire peace in the region
Addressing weekly briefing Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said that Pakistan is neither becoming a part of Abraham Accord nor is becoming part of International Stabilisation force.
He said that joining the board of peace and becoming part of International Stabilisation Force are two separate matters.
Tahir Hussain Andrabi said that Pakistan joined the Board of Peace in good faith. The purpose of joining the Board of Peace is to help stabilise a ceasefire in Gaza. The second objective is to assist in the reconstruction of Gaza, and the third is to establish lasting peace based on the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.
The spokesperson further said that Pakistan is not alone; seven other Muslim countries are also part of the Board of Peace, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, the UAE, Indonesia, and Qatar. The Board of Peace was launched last September as a collective effort and is a ray of hope for Gaza and the Palestinian issue.
He said that for the past two years, the people of Gaza have suffered massive destruction and a severe humanitarian crisis. United Nations efforts have failed to stop Israeli aggression. The Board of Peace has the approval of a United Nations Security Council resolution and is not a substitute for the UN, but a supporting platform.
Pakistan is actively working to promote peace and stability in the region amid a tense regional situation.
This commitment was highlighted by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during his participation in the World Economic Forum, the FO spokesperson said.
Regarding US travel advisory for Pakistan, the foreign office spokesperson said Pakistan is a safe and open country for international travelers. The travel advisory issued by the United States is not a downgrade but an update.
In the new travel advisory, some previous security-related points have been removed. After the update, travel to Pakistan has become easier for U.S. citizens. Pakistan and the United States are in contact on this matter through diplomatic channels.
The spokesperson said that discussions regarding the removal of US visa restrictions are ongoing in Islamabad and Washington.
Pakistan hopes to be removed from the visa restriction list soon, and diplomatic engagement with the United States is continuing for this purpose, the spokesperson said.
