In a landmark development for Pakistan’s technology landscape, Generative AI startup Jams, co-founded by Asad Awan and Hamza Aftab, has officially joined OpenAI.
Pakistan tech ecosystem especially in Artificial Intelligence despite in embryonic phases produce such milestone which symbolises the country’s growing influence in the global artificial intelligence space.
The acquisition also marks a first successful exit for Indus Valley Capital (IVC), a leading Pakistan-based venture capital firm.
IVC’s founder, Aatif Awan praised the milestone, saying the deal proves that “Pakistani talent continues to go global.”
He noted that Jams was the firm’s first investment under a model focused on small stakes in Pakistani founders building globally, particularly those expanding in the United States.
The startup ‘Jam’ founded by two former Meta engineers focuses in generating authentic audiovisual experiences using generative AI.
The startup had previously raised two round of investments, one from Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and next Indus Valley Capital back in the year of 2022.
Announcing the news on LinkedIn, Asad Awan expressed enthusiasm about joining OpenAI, stating:
“Hamza Aftab and I started Jams to explore the best AI experiences for the masses, and we are thrilled to continue this vision with the best product and AI builders of our time at OpenAI.”
This development reinforces Pakistan’s emerging role in global AI innovation, as local entrepreneurs gain international recognition for their contributions to next-generation technologies.
