Web desk: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has reminded mobile phone users across the country that all SIM cards must be registered in the user’s own name.
PTA warned that misuse of a registered connection could lead to legal action, as it is a violation of the telecom regulations.
It was stressed that the registered owner of a SIM bears full legal responsibility for any activity carried out through that connection.
This includes all calls, messages, and data usage, regardless of who is actually using the SIM.
According to the PTA statement, registered users will be held individually accountable for all calls, messages, and data usage made through their SIMs or devices.
The PTA advised consumers to exercise caution and use their mobile connections responsibly at all times.
It was also noted that the failure to comply with applicable rules could result in enforcement action against the registered user.
The authority further called on telecom subscribers to contribute to the security and stability of the country’s telecommunications system.
This can be done by responsibly adhering to regulatory requirements. And by avoiding practices that could facilitate misuse.
The PTA has previously warned citizens against purchasing free SIM cards from unauthorised sources and highlighted an increase in sophisticated scams targeting biometric data.
According to the regulator, fraudsters often lure victims by offering free SIM cards or fake financial assistance schemes. Senior citizens are especially prone to these scams.
These scams are used to illegally obtain fingerprints, thumb impressions, and other sensitive personal information.
The authority has appealed to telecom users to adopt a responsible attitude. And to play an active role in protecting the security, stability, and reliability of Pakistan’s telecommunications system.
