Official figures show decline in Pakistanis leaving for overseas jobs

Web desk: According to official figures, the number of Pakistanis leaving the country for employment abroad has dropped significantly in 2025.

Government data shows that more than 41,000 fewer Pakistanis went overseas for work this year compared to last year.

A report by the Protectorate of Emigrants states that during the first eleven months of 2025, a total of 686,292 Pakistanis traveled to different countries in search of jobs.

In the same period last year, the number was 727,391. This shows a clear decline in overseas employment trends over the past year.

Provincial figures

The report also highlights provincial figures, stating that 52,449 people from Sindh went abroad for work during this period. This also includes Karachi.

The number of Pakistanis choosing the United States as a work destination remained very low. This is with only 899 individuals recorded.

Gulf countries

Gulf countries continued to be the most popular destinations for Pakistani workers.

Saudi Arabia remained the top choice, followed by the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait.

Other destinations included Japan, Central Asian countries, the United Kingdom, several European nations, and African countries.

According to the report, Pakistanis from various professional backgrounds went abroad for employment.

These included highly educated professionals, skilled and semi-skilled workers, as well as labourers.

Doctors, nurses, accountants, engineers, pharmacists, agricultural experts, artists, and workers from other fields were also among those who secured jobs overseas.
