A schedule for public holidays in 2026 has been revealed. The Cabinet Division will formally notify the final list at the start of the year. Some of the dates will be subject to moon sighting.
The first public holiday of the year will be observed on Kashmir Day, February 5, according to the proposed calendar.
The second holiday will likely be Eid al-Fitr. Eid-ul-Fitr will give us 3 days of holidays, expected from March 21 to March 23. It will depend upon the sighting of the Shawwal moon.
The next Holiday will be in May; employees are set to observe Labour Day on May 1. Toum-e-Takebeer will also be a holiday on May 28. Depending on the moon, Eid-ul-Adha three-day break will also start from May 27th.
The tentative schedule for Muharram public holidays is June 25 and 26. They will be coinciding with Ashura. Independence Day will, as always, be celebrated on August 14th. The Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) is expected to be observed on August 26.
The list that was proposed also includes November 9, Iqbal Day, including holidays for Quaid-e-Azam Day and Christmas in December. December 26 will also be a holiday but will be restricted for Christian employees.
The Islamic holidays are confirmed to be provisional, as confirmed by the authorities. They are subject to change through official moon sightings.
In the coming months, the complete and final notification regarding public holidays will be released by the government.
