Islamabad: Parking fee in New Blue Area challenged in court

Parking fee in New Blue area challenged in court

The matter of charging of parking fee in New Blue Area in Islamabad has landed in the High court as citizen’s lament being charged for parking.

As per details, the move to charge an entry fee for New Blue Area in Islamabad has been challenged in the Islamabad High Court.

In a petition filed against the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad, lawyer Muhammad Tayyab has requested the court to declare the collection of the fee illegal.

The petitioner argued that New Blue Area houses commercial markets, corporate headquarters, and restaurants. The district administration is charging Rs100 for the use of the service road.

He further stated that this is not parking but a fee for using a service road, and no facility or service is being provided in return.

According to the petitioner, charging an entry fee also violates court judgments.

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has introduced a Rs100 parking fee in Islamabad’s extended Blue Area, a move residents say is adding to the difficulties of ordinary citizens, patients, visitors and businesses.

The extended Blue Area was developed as a modern commercial hub with easy public access, offering hotels, hospitals, cafés, restaurants and corporate offices. For years, families, tourists, office workers and patients could visit the area without any parking charges.

However, the imposition of a Rs100 fee per visit has significantly changed the situation, drawing concern from regular users.
