The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has warned centrally contracted players against posting on social media without prior approval from its media department.
The directive reminds players to follow the rules outlined in their contracts, with particular focus on behaviour on social media.
Managers of players have also been briefed on the guidelines.
According to sources, “Political posts will not be tolerated under any circumstances.”
Fine for Naseem Shah
The move follows the Rs20 million fine imposed on national fast bowler Naseem Shah earlier this month.
The 23-year-old pacer was penalised for a tweet about Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
Any player posting controversial content could face a minimum fine of Rs10 million, the sources added.
Event that sparked controversy
The issue arose during the opening ceremony of the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season at Gaddafi Stadium last week. Maryam Nawaz attended as the chief guest and was formally welcomed by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
She met franchise owners and players from both teams before the curtain-raiser.
Shortly after the event, Naseem Shah shared a comment on X, quote-retweeting a PCB post showing the chairman greeting the chief minister.
The post drew widespread attention and mixed reactions across social media.
Naseem Shah responds
Naseem Shah later clarified that his account had been hacked.
“This account of Naseem was recently hacked but has now been recovered successfully,” he wrote, adding that the post was not deliberate.
The PCB’s warning highlights the growing importance of social media guidelines for players in Pakistan, as the board seeks to avoid controversies related to political or sensitive content.
