Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood is reportedly facing the threat of removal following the team’s humiliating Test series defeat against Bangladesh, with Salman Ali Agha emerging as the frontrunner to take over the leadership role, according to media reports.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to change the captaincy after Pakistan suffered a second consecutive Test series defeat against Bangladesh.
It reported that head coach Sarfraz Ahmed is unhappy with Shan Masood’s leadership and expressed dissatisfaction over several of his decisions. Reports suggest that Shan Masood was unable to contribute much during the team meeting because of his poor personal performance.
The sources added that Sarfraz Ahmed favours handing over the captaincy of the national Test team to Salman Ali Agha and is expected to submit his report to the PCB chairman soon.
Details of internal disagreements within the national Test squad also emerged after the heavy series defeat to Bangladesh.
Head coach Sarfraz Ahmed reportedly delivered a strong message to the players in the presence of the team manager, emphasising the importance of playing for the team rather than focusing on individual performances.
According to the sources, the coach made it clear that personal achievements alone are not enough and that every player must contribute to the team’s overall success.
The sources further stated that after the series loss, players began blaming one another. The batters questioned the performance of the bowlers, while the bowlers blamed the batting and fielding departments for the defeat.
