The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a weather advisory warning of rain, wind, and possible thunderstorms starting from March 14, 2026.
The advisory, dated March 13, 2026, was circulated to government departments and district administrations across Punjab to prepare for the changing weather conditions.
As per the statement issued, the rainy season will begin on March 14 and will continue till March 16, 2026.
Weather update
According to the advisory, the warning is based on information from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
A westerly weather system is expected to enter the north-western parts of the country on Saturday evening and remain active until Sunday morning.
Under the influence of this system, rain accompanied by wind and thunderstorms with a possibility of isolated hailstorms is expected in several districts of Punjab.
The districts likely to be affected include Rawalpindi, Murree, the Galiyat area, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Talagang, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Sargodha, Mianwali, Sheikhupura, Gujrat, Khushab, Mandi Bahauddin, Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, Faisalabad, Jhang, Chiniot, Bhakkar, Layyah and Dera Ghazi Khan.
Officials say the surrounding areas of these districts may also receive rainfall during the same period.
Temperature expected to fall
The authority said daytime temperatures in the upper parts of the country could drop by three to four degrees Celsius during the spell.
It also warned that lightning strikes may occur in isolated places, particularly during thunderstorms.
Tourists travelling to northern areas have been advised to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during the forecast period.
Advisory issued to departments and districts
The advisory document shows that the warning was sent to several provincial departments, including health, local government, agriculture, transport, education and emergency services, as well as divisional commissioners and district administrations.
Authorities have been asked to maintain round-the-clock staffing in District Emergency Operation Centres and coordinate closely with PDMA for a prompt response if needed.
The document also directs the Punjab Emergency Service Rescue 1122 to remain on alert and pre-position rescue teams and equipment in high-risk areas.
Traffic and safety measures
Motorway police and local administrations have been instructed to issue traffic advisories and road condition updates where required.
Officials have also been asked to share timely safety information with the public through electronic and social media.
Farmers have been advised to take precautions and manage their crops according to the expected weather conditions.
Another system expected later
The advisory adds that another western disturbance may approach the western parts of the country on the night of March 17, which could bring further weather changes.
For now, authorities say the current advisory is intended to ensure that district administrations remain prepared and that emergency services can respond quickly if the weather conditions worsen.
