Netflix is likely to release a new season of the popular British series Peaky Blinders, with filming already underway in Birmingham.
Series creator Steven Knight said the story will move forward to the early 1950s, focusing on a new generation of the Shelby family in the years after the Second World War.
Jamie Bell has been cast as Duke Shelby, the eldest son of Tommy Shelby.
The character follows on from the role made famous by Cillian Murphy in the original series.
Duke appeared in earlier instalments but has been recast for the new timeline.
The character is now older and is expected to play a central role in the next phase of the story.
Charlie Heaton will also take on a leading role.
He is widely known for his work in Stranger Things, although details about his new character have not yet been confirmed.
Other cast members include Jessica Brown Findlay, Lashana Lynch and Lucy Karczewski, who is making her television debut. Their roles have not yet been revealed.
Steven Knight said the new series marks a shift in the story, describing it as a move into a different period for Birmingham and the Shelby family.
According to early details, Duke Shelby will be portrayed as an older and more experienced figure, navigating a changing city and new challenges in the post-war years.
The announcement comes as the recent film ‘Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man’ continues to perform strongly on Netflix, where it has held the top global position since its release in March.
The new series suggests that the Peaky Blinders story will continue to expand, with a focus on the next generation of characters.
