PEIRA warns unregistered private schools of strict action

The Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) has decided to take strict action against unregistered private educational institutions operating in Islamabad.

Through a press release, PEIRA has directed all private schools and educational institutions in Islamabad to complete their registration or renewal process within 15 days. The authority warned that failure to comply within the given timeframe will result in strict legal action.

Action against defaulting institutions will be taken under Section 19 of the relevant regulations, this may include the imposition of fines, sealing of school premises, and other legal measures as clearly mentioned in the release.

PEIRA officials stated that the move is aimed at safeguarding the interests of parents and students, while ensuring compliance with educational standards and legal requirements. They confirmed that action has already been initiated against illegally established schools in Islamabad and emphasised that no institution will be treated as above the law.

The authority has also urged parents to ensure that their children are enrolled only in registered and officially approved educational institutions.

Clarifying its stance, PEIRA said the regulatory framework has been made more stringent and warned that no future concessions will be granted to unregistered private educational institutions.

It is worth noting that PEIRA had earlier announced a uniform annual schedule for the registration and renewal of private educational institutions in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) to standardise regulatory timelines.

Under the new mechanism, all private institutions are required to submit applications for renewal between March 1 and April 30 each year. PEIRA will process these applications by June 30, with inspections, where necessary, conducted during May and June. Applications for fresh registration may be submitted throughout the year; however, approvals for new registrations will only be granted up to April 30.
