As a New Year’s gift, Pakistanis may get relief as the petrol price is likely to drop from January 1, 2026.
According to reports, petrol could fall by up to Rs10.60 per litre, while high-speed diesel may decrease by Rs8.59 per litre.
Moreover, Kerosene is expected to become cheaper by Rs8.92 per litre, and light diesel oil could see a reduction of Rs6.62 per litre.
Officials have prepared a plan to significantly reduce petroleum product prices over the next 15 days, following a sharp decline in crude oil prices on the international market.
On December 15, the federal government announced a reduction in the price of high-speed diesel while keeping petrol prices unchanged for the next 15 days.
Experts say that if global trends continue, Pakistanis may see a big drop in petrol prices at the start of the new year. But officials say the government will decide the final prices after considering taxes and other charges.
The final decision will be announced today.
Most of the transport sector runs on high-speed diesel. Its price is considered inflationary as it is mostly used in heavy transport vehicles, trains, and agricultural engines like trucks, buses, tractors, tube-wells, and threshers, and particularly adds to the prices of vegetables and other eatables.
