Petrol prices in Pakistan expected to drop

Web desk: Pakistanis may get some relief at the fuel pump as petroleum product prices are expected to drop by up to Rs 11 per litre starting 16 December, according to sources on Friday.

The relevant department has reportedly prepared preliminary calculations for the price reduction.

Sources indicate that petrol may decrease by Rs 0.36 per litre, while high-speed diesel could fall by Rs 11.85 per litre.

Additionally, kerosene oil is expected to drop by Rs 11.70 per litre and light diesel by Rs 10.01 per litre.

The Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) is set to send the summary of proposed prices for approval on 15 December.

After the Prime Minister’s endorsement, the Petroleum Division will issue the official notification of the new rates.

If the proposed reduction is implemented, the new petrol price will be Rs 263.09 per litre, and high-speed diesel will cost Rs 270.80 per litre.

Meanwhile, kerosene oil will be priced at Rs 181.16 per litre and light diesel at Rs 153.76 per litre.

Previously, it was reported that the government is moving ahead with plans to adjust profit margins for Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and petroleum dealers on Motor Spirit (MS) and High-Speed Diesel (HSD).

The Petroleum Division of the Ministry of Energy has submitted a detailed proposal to the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC).

It recommends changes to the current margin structure for petroleum products.

The move follows a September 2023 ECC decision. It directed that margins should be set by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) through a transparent mechanism.

Taking into account the operating costs of Pakistan State Oil (PSO) and other dealers.

The margin revision has stirred debate within the industry. The Oil Companies Advisory Council (OCAC) has requested an increase of Rs7.87 per litre, effectively Rs10 per litre in total.

While the Oil Marketing Association of Pakistan (OMAP) has asked for a bigger boost of Rs8.13 per litre, or Rs16 per litre combined for OMCs and dealers.

Petrol price in Pakistan today 2025

As of early December 2025, petrol in Pakistan costs about PKR 263.45 per litre. This is after the government announced reductions around December 1, based on OGRA’s recommendations.

Diesel has also fallen to roughly PKR 279.65 per litre. Prices are updated every two weeks.
