The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association has announced a nationwide strike from 12 AM tonight after rejecting the government’s plan to introduce daily fuel price revisions on Tuesday. The decision came after talks with the government failed.
Association leader Humayun Khan said that they met with the federal petroleum minister, but no agreement was reached on increasing dealers’ commissions, the fuel pricing system, and other key demands.
He said that the petrol pump owners are facing many problems. According to him, issues involving the Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), oil marketing companies (OMCs), and government policies have made business more difficult.
Daily petrol pricing system
Humayun Khan also criticised the plan to set fuel prices on a daily basis. He said the system is unclear and will create more problems for dealers.
He further claimed that the government does not consult petroleum dealers before making policy decisions. Adding that this has led to more challenges for the sector.

Will petrol pumps in Pakistan close tonight?
As no progress was made on their demands, petrol pump owners decided to begin a nationwide strike from midnight.
Following the announcement, there are concerns that the supply of petroleum products could be affected across the country. The government has not yet announced any further talks or its next course of action.
Before this, petroleum dealers had welcomed the government’s plan to introduce daily fuel prices. They also announced their support for the new policy.
OGRA announces new petrol, diesel prices
Yesterday, OGRA announced new fuel prices for one day. The change in prices includes a small cut in the price of petrol and an increase in the price of diesel.
According to a notification, the price of petrol has been reduced by 35 paisas per litre. The price of diesel has increased by Rs5.71 per litre.
After the revision, petrol will cost Rs315.80 per litre, while diesel will be priced at Rs360.06 per litre. The new prices will remain in effect only on July 21.
New kerosene oil price announced in Pakistan
Earlier today, after the previous change in petrol and diesel prices, the new price for kerosene oil was also announced.
According to a notification issued on the recommendation of OGRA, the revised fuel prices will remain in effect for July 21 only.
The price of kerosene oil was also increased by Rs5.93 per litre, bringing it to Rs282.59 per litre.
‘OGRA to decide petroleum product prices daily’
On Friday, the federal government decided that petroleum prices will now be set daily, Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik announced.
He said that OGRA will determine petroleum prices every day. The new petrol prices in Pakistan will be published on the OGRA website.
The minister said rising tensions in the region have affected global oil markets. This has caused international oil prices to increase again. He added that diesel prices have seen a particularly sharp rise.
