Web desk: Another Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight attendant has allegedly gone missing in Canada, according to a spokesperson for the PIA.
Senior flight steward Asif Najam had arrived in Toronto on November 16 after operating a flight from Lahore, sources say.
According to the PIA administration, Najam was scheduled to return to Lahore on November 19 but failed to report for duty.
The airline subsequently informed Toronto police about his disappearance.
When contacted, the missing flight attendant reportedly cited ill health, the PIA spokesperson said. According to the sources, an investigation into the incident is currently underway.
PIA officials further stated that strict action will be taken against the flight attendant if it is confirmed that he disappeared illegally.
This is not the first time PIA staff members have gone missing during international layovers. The occurrences have raised concerns about supervision and operational controls.
Officials say stricter monitoring may be introduced to prevent similar incidents in the future. PIA continues to address these challenges while implementing broader organisational reforms.
‘Thank You, PIA’: Another PIA Crew Member Missing
In the past, another Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) cabin crew member has reportedly gone missing while on duty in Canada.
Maryam Raza arrived in Toronto on PIA flight PK-782 from Islamabad on Monday but did not show up for her return flight, PK-784, to Karachi.
When authorities checked her hotel room, they found her uniform along with a note that read, “Thank you, PIA,” reported Dawn on February 27, 2024.
Ms Raza has worked with the national carrier for 15 years and was assigned to the Islamabad-Toronto flight.
Similar cases have occurred before, with at least seven PIA cabin crew members disappearing in Canada while on duty.
In one previous case, a crew member who left on duty has now settled in Canada and reportedly advises others considering asylum, Dawn reports.
