The state-of-the-art and historic Kutchery Chowk project in Rawalpindi is now 90 per cent complete and will be partially reopened this week.
Completed in a record time of just four months and 20 days, the project marks a major milestone in the city’s infrastructure development.
The total cost has risen from Rs 14 billion to over Rs 15 billion due to increasing prices of construction materials and petroleum products, according to media reports.
The upgraded facility is expected to significantly benefit both lawyers and citizens by improving access to court services and reducing congestion in the area.
Meanwhile, construction of a modern commercial parking plaza associated with the project is also in its final stages, further enhancing convenience for visitors.
Carpeting work on all four sides of flyovers, underpasses completed
The carpeting work on all four sides of the flyovers and underpasses has been completed. Installation of electricity poles and traffic signals is underway, and plantation work along the underpasses and flyovers has begun, with 50 per cent already completed.
The walls of government offices affected by the project have also been restored.
Construction and installation of the underpasses, flyovers and a pedestrian footbridge have been completed. The project was launched on November 3, 2025, and although it was originally planned as a nine-month project, it is now expected to be completed in just six months.
Painting of the outer walls of the underpasses and flyovers has also started.
Approximately 200,000 vehicles pass daily through flyover
Commissioner Rawalpindi, Amir Khattak, stated that approximately 200,000 vehicles pass daily through the flyover, underpasses and Kutchery Chowk. Previously, the area suffered from severe traffic congestion, but now traffic is expected to flow smoothly.
In a recent meeting, the commissioner emphasised that there will be no compromise on quality and that the work is being carried out transparently.
The parking areas beneath the underpass and flyover have been fully completed, and the service roads on all sides have been cleaned. Installation of street lights on the underpasses and overhead bridges has begun, and these lights are expected to be operational by next week.
