Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday expressed his gratitude to China for its steady economic support, and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to the further development of CPEC 2.0, especially in the fields of agriculture, industrial cooperation and key infrastructure projects.
During a meeting with the Chinese Ambassador in Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong, the Prime Minister emphasised the importance of maintaining close coordination between China and Pakistan in matters of mutual interest and reiterated the importance of the Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership.
The meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi and the Foreign Secretary.
Prime Minister Shehbaz congratulated the Chinese leadership on the conclusion of the “Two Sessions” and expressed gratitude to the President of the PRC, Mr Xi Jinping, Premier Mr Li Qiang, and the Foreign Minister Mr Wang Yi for sending warm greetings to Pakistan on the occasion of Pakistan Day.
Ambassador Jiang praised Pakistan’s efforts at economic restructuring and reform, and renewed China’s support, particularly in the sectors of trade and investment.
Both sides encouraged further exchanges and harboured ambitions for future high-level contacts planned to mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The importance of Pakistan’s positive contribution in matters of regional stability and de-escalation was underlined by the prime minister while commenting on the overall regional scenario.
