Prime Minister Shebaz Sharif chaired a key security meeting to review the regional tensions. Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir also attended the meeting. According to the report of a private media channel, Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal reviewed the regional and local situation in detail.
The meeting discussed Pakistan’s role and various measures to establish peace in the region. Both the PM and the Field Marshal also discussed the security situation in Afghanistan.
The meeting was also briefed on the country’s internal situation and security arrangements.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also stressed the safety of Pakistani citizens in Iran and urged the authorities to ensure their safe evacuation from the country.
The officials in the meeting confirmed that the evacuation of Pakistani citizens is underway through Azarbaijan.
Field Marshal, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Syed Asim Munir, Federal Ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Mohsin Naqvi, Azam Nazir Tarar, Ahad Khan Cheema, Attaullah Tarar, Ali Pervez Malik, Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi, and senior civil and military officials attended the meeting.

The Prime Minister’s scheduled visit to Russia tomorrow has been cancelled due to heightened tensions around the region.
The Pakistan-Russia Business Forum to be held on March 4, has also been cancelled due to growing tensions and security conditions arising out of continuing Pak-Afghan war.
Officials in the government confirmed that there has been a formal decision to call off the forum and relevant delegations have been informed accordingly.
The forum had been originally envisaged as a way to promote interaction between more than 100 Pakistani companies and their Russian business counterparts for boosting trade and economic ties.
