Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, expressing deep concern over the recent tensions in the region and urging all parties to exercise restraint and take immediate steps to restore peace.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office Media Wing, the two leaders discussed the regional security situation, bilateral cooperation and matters related to peace and stability.
During the conversation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed that Iran and all other concerned parties should avoid any actions that could undermine the progress made toward regional peace in recent months. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to playing a sincere and constructive role in promoting and maintaining peace and stability across the region.
The prime minister also emphasized the importance of honoring the commitments made under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), saying the agreement provides a strong foundation for fostering mutual understanding, respect, and shared prosperity in the region and beyond.
President Pezeshkian thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and other senior Pakistani officials for attending the funeral prayers and burial of the late Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
The Iranian president reiterated Iran’s commitment to regional peace and appreciated Pakistan’s continued support and constructive role in promoting stability.
The two leaders also reviewed progress on the decisions taken during President Pezeshkian’s recent visit to Islamabad and agreed to accelerate their implementation to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
At the conclusion of the call, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif conveyed his warm regards and best wishes to Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining regular contact and continuing close consultations on matters of mutual interest, particularly regional peace and stability.
