PM Shehbaz, Iranian President hold call, welcome historic peace deal

The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif, received a telephone call from the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr Masoud Pezeshkian, which lasted for more than 30 minutes, on Thursday

This was the first contact between the two leaders after the signing of the Islamabad Peace Agreement.

The Prime Minister extended his heartfelt congratulations to President Masoud Pezeshkian, the Iranian leadership and the brotherly Iranian people on the historic peace agreement.

The Prime Minister said that this historic agreement will not only help in establishing peace in the region but will also play an important role in rebuilding the Iranian nation and further strengthening relations between Pakistan and Iran in all areas of mutual interest.

He also conveyed his best wishes and respect to the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei.

The Prime Minister appreciated the Iranian decision to sign the peace agreement and expressed his best wishes for success in the next phase of the negotiations. And he assured the Iranian President that Pakistan, as a brotherly and neighbouring country, will continue to support Iran in every field.

On behalf of the Iranian nation and himself, President Masoud Pezeshkian thanked the Prime Minister and the Chief of Defence Forces and the Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for guiding the mediation process with utmost skill, sincerity and wisdom, which resulted in this successful agreement.

He said that Iran will always remember Pakistan’s positive, constructive and sincere efforts and support in difficult circumstances.

Expressing his best wishes to the people of Pakistan, the Iranian President said that Iran wants to further expand and strengthen its bilateral relations with Pakistan in all areas of mutual interest.

The two leaders agreed to visit each other’s capitals as soon as possible to further advance the excellent cooperation in bilateral and regional affairs. They also agreed to remain in constant contact in the coming days.
