Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met President Asif Ali Zardari at Aiwan-e-Sadr, Islamabad, on Monday, where they held discussions on the country’s overall situation, issues concerning Afghanistan, and the evolving regional dynamics.
During the meeting, they paid tribute to the martyrs of Marka-e-Haq, appreciated the professional excellence of the armed forces, and reiterated their strong commitment to the defence of the country.
The President noted that, despite challenging geographical conditions, regional tensions in the Middle East, and disruptions in global supply chains, every possible effort should be made to provide relief to the public.
He further instructed that effective steps be taken to ease inflationary pressures, ensure the steady availability of essential commodities, and support the common citizens.
On the other hand, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, during which they discussed the evolving regional situation and issues of mutual interest.
During the call, the Saudi Foreign Minister appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in regional diplomacy and reiterated Riyadh’s support for Islamabad’s efforts to promote peace and stability, particularly in the context of ongoing engagement between Iran and the United States.
Both sides exchanged views on the importance of ensuring maritime security, including in the Strait of Hormuz. They also agreed to maintain close contact on regional and international developments going forward.
