Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif met Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi amid the rising tensions with Afghanistan.

The two discussed the overall law and order and security situation in the country.

PM Shehbaz appreciated the efforts of the Interior Minister and his team and directed that coordinated and effective measures be continued to ensure the safety of lives and property of citizens.

He reaffirmed the resolve that protection of lives and properties of the people, ensuring rule of law, and completely eradicating terrorism are among the top priorities of the government.

The meeting has taken place a day before the prime minister is set to fly for Egypt.

Earlier this week, Afghanistan accused Islamabad of conducting air strikes.

For its part, Islamabad has said that Kabul should “stop harbouring the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan on its soil”.

In response to Islamabad’s repeated calls to bar terrorists from using its territory for cross-border attacks, Afghanistan denies the allegation of allowing terrorist outfits to use it soil.

Later, during the night of October 11–12, heavy exchange of fire broke out between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), 23 troops have been martyred and 200 Taliban and affiliated terrorists have been killed in border clashes.
