Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that the petrol prices will witness a massive drop today after peace deal between Iran and US.
During his address to the National Assembly in Islamabad on Friday, he said, “We had promised that we would bring the price of petroleum products down and repay each penny to the people”.
“So today, after our weekly review, we will announce a significant reduction [in the price of petroleum products],” the prime minister said, praising his ministers for managing the oil crisis.
Prime Minister Shehbaz said Pakistan’s stature had risen globally following the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, which helped bring an end to the conflict between the United States and Iran that began in late February.
“From Japan to Saudi Arabia, from Kuala Lumpur to Casablanca and from Mexico to India, Pakistan’s name is being mentioned with honour and respect,” he said, adding that many nations had sought such recognition for centuries.
Prime Minister Shehbaz urged the National Assembly to adopt a resolution acknowledging Pakistan’s contribution to the peace process, saying it would not only affirm the country’s diplomatic success but also send a message of unity to the international community.
He called on both government and opposition members to rise above political differences and demonstrate national solidarity on matters of national importance.
The premier also paid tribute to those involved in facilitating peace efforts between the United States and Iran. He credited Field Marshal Asim Munir for playing a key role in the process, saying he worked tirelessly over the past several months to help restore peace.
Shehbaz Sharif further acknowledged the contributions of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, as well as Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, for their efforts in supporting diplomatic engagement.
The prime minister also congratulated opposition leader Mehmood Khan Achakzai, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and other political allies and opposition members for their support, saying the achievement reflected a collective national effort.
